A list of things to consider while planning your Still Not Asking For It event:
Who will you choose to donate to? Making this decision early and reaching out in advance can be highly advantageous. The organization can help promote the event and may offer options for accepting non-cash donations directly. They might also provide literature and items to distribute during your event or even come by to participate and help document the day.
Will you invite guest artists? If you have enough space, consider reaching out to friends who might be interested in doing a guest spot during your event. The atmosphere is typically positive, and the cause resonates with many people. Make it an enjoyable experience!
Will you engage other businesses in your community to participate? We've seen collaborations with local coffee shops, barbershops, salons, restaurants, and boutiques that help raise awareness for the event and contribute in their own ways to fundraising efforts.
SNAFI events are usually flash day fundraisers. Are you planning to create exclusive flash designs in addition to the provided SNAFI designs? If so, how many sheets will you create? Starting this process early is always beneficial.
How will you manage appointment slots? Will you sell time slots in advance, or will your event operate on a first-come, first-served basis? If you choose the latter, will you offer any skip-the-line tickets?
When curating the atmosphere for the day, remember that you are welcoming survivors of sexual violence into your shop. Select music that is appropriate and offer designs that are unlikely to trigger anyone who has experienced such trauma.
How will you promote your event? Will you create physical flyers to distribute at coffee shops or local campuses? A digital flyer for social media is essential!
Be sure to tag SNAFI on Instagram, and we will gladly share your flyer. We also love to showcase photos from your event, so don’t forget to send those our way too.
Will you require additional front-of-house assistance for the day? SNAFI events can get quite busy! After a couple of years of hosting, you’ll likely have everything down, but it’s wise to prepare for a bustling environment during your first few events.
What will your sign-in process be? If you frequently host flash events, you likely have a preferred method. However, if this is a new experience, you have several options to consider, such as a manual sign-up sheet, an electronic waitlist, or a combination of both. My shop uses a waitlist app for guests as they arrive and check in, allowing them to leave until we call them back. We then add them to a physical list that includes their design choice, assigned tattoo artist, and whether they consent to having their photos and tattoos shared.
Will you bring in a photographer or videographer for the day? Having high-quality images or videos from the event is valuable, and you may find someone passionate about the cause who would be willing to donate their time.
Are you interested in creating exclusive merchandise for your event? This is something to think about early on to avoid missing any deadlines.
Have you thought about contacting a tattoo supply company to sponsor your event and provide donations of supplies? This can alleviate some of the financial strain on both the shop and the artists involved.
SNAFI Framework:
We encourage all shops, tattoo artists, managers, and front-of-house staff to prioritize ongoing education on topics such as trauma, boundaries, and issues pertaining to marginalized communities. Resources we recommend include Trauma Informed Tattooing and Tinted.
If any issues arise within your shop, approach them with accountability towards your team and the community you serve.
Official SNAFI day will be celebrated on the second Sunday of April, unless it falls on Easter Sunday, in which case it will be observed on the third Sunday of April. While this date is significant, we understand that spring can be a busy time for shops, and flexibility is encouraged.
All proceeds from SNAFI events must be donated to a local or national organization—100%. This is a firm requirement for any shop representing Still Not Asking For It or utilizing SNAFI-associated designs. You may select the organization of your choice.
SNAFI flash sheets are available for free use at your event, provided that Still Not Asking For It is properly cited and credited.
The "No means No" design is copyrighted to Ashley Love and may be used freely, as long as proceeds are donated and credit is given to Still Not Asking For It.
This event should be hosted by individuals and shops that genuinely align with the values outlined above.
